Building mobility throughout the core and the spine is SUPER important – but equally so is core STABILITY.

It’s a concept lower back pain expert Dr. Stu McGill talked about at length on a recent episode of The Ben Greenfield Fitness Podcast – our ability to create stiffness throughout the torso when under load.

In this week’s video, I’m taking you through six simple core stabilisation exercise you can perform on the daily to hone that skill.

The Core Stability Exercises:

  1. The Front Plank
  2. The Side Plank
  3. The Reverse Plank
  4. The Glute Bridge
  5. The Hollow Body
  6. The Bird-Dog

It’s a super simple, beginner-friendly, four-minute blast that you can follow along with (or adjust the timings as you see fit).

An important thing to note:

We’re not necessarily looking to torch the core or make massive strength gains with this one.

It’s more about reminding the spine what it feels like to create stability, so we can then (hopefully) begin to transfer this pattern into everyday life – whether that’s hitting a PR on the deadlift, busting out a cool handstand for your Instagram, or lifting up your screaming kid from the cot in the early hours without throwing out your lower back…
